i'm a liar

SHHH!The night before leaving town, I'm hanging with my buddy Cinder the Dog. She is real sweet, if a bit skittish. While we're having a good time and all, I'm having SUPER BIG FUN with Mammacita's computer. Don't tell!

leeeeeeaving in a motor home!

Alrighty kids, trip is ON. I am outtie, not to be seen on these here interwebs until Halloween (muaha ha ha ha). Unless I find myself an internet hotspot way out in the middle of nowhere, but I'm not holding my breath (though I am hauling the laptop, just in case). My plans for this trip are to:

1. Turn off my brain.
2. Finish Top Secret Knitting Project #1.
3. Get a good start on Top Secret Knitting Project #2.
4. Have a long talk with my Pops about Hairbrained Scheme #209,438,257.
5. Hopefully walk A LOT (note to self--remember knee brace).
6. Generally chill out.

Wish me luck!

my brain, currently

The last few days have given me tons to think about.

First, the holiday knitting is coming along swimmingly, though about halfway through Project Number One I decided I wanted to alter the pattern a bit. I'm thinking of ripping out about 16 hours of work because I think I want to add a little cabling to something. I am insane. And probably won't make the edit, if only because of the time involved. And because I don't think my poor addled mind can do the advanced math necessary (and by "math" in this sense I mean "counting").

Also knitting related, my second-ever knit-picks order was shipped 10 days ago and still hasn't arrived. I am bothered, primarily because the first order showed up the day after it was shipped. Doesn't their stuff come from Vancouver? I could have driven there, picked it up, and driven home by now--of course, not for the approximately $3 I paid in shipping, but whatev. Cranky. (And by "cranky" in this sense I mean "I wish it would get here so I could touch it already, even though I will not be starting Project Number Two until I finish a few others").

Dontcha just love my parenthetical references? I'm cracking myself up. Moving on. Along with the knitting, I've been grappling with some geekery. I finally got all the aspects of the system upgrade rollin', however, I lost a huge portion of my database (dumb) and am so entranced by the possibilities that I'm spending precious knitting time clicking away on the keyboard. I would like to develop some real and true design skills (instead of just editing the work of others), so I am working on a new set of mt templates for a friend of mine. While I might not complete them until next year (calendar or rolling, I'm not sure yet)--I will triumph! And then not look at .css or scripts for another few months. My note to other mt users out there--3.3 is superfun!

The last little bit of strategery and brain energy is going towards this Grand Canyon trip I was supposed to be going on this coming Saturday. Then due to financial dumbness had to cancel. Now, mostly because I fear my father doesn't want to cook for himself, I have been offered a Work For Plane Tickets deal that is too good to pass up. But I already un-requested the time off, and getting ready for a trip is time consuming, and I have laundry and dogsitting and airport pickups and work and halloween parties and friend's birthdays and knitting/geekery to fill my time. When the boss gets back on Wednesday, I'll re-request the time.

If the point of this weblog is to fill the world in on the minutae of my everyday happenings, and I can't think of any other definition for what it describes, then I have done my duty. See you next time!

poltergeist in my website

'Tis the season for spooky to occur, I suppose. Frankly, I have no idea why my front page won't display properly. As far as I can tell, everything is correct. Oh well, it goes right along with the rest of this winner week, the theme of which seems to be "if it can go wrong, it will, all at once". Hurrah. Today's installment? Early morning power-outage leading to no alarm clocks and gettting dressed by flashlight. Cripes.

Update, a few minutes later

Erm, okay, so apparently after dinking about with my templates last night in dreamweaver, MovableType got cranky with my dirty dirty css code. It rilly rilly wanted me to refer to div CLASS instead of div ID. Working now. Sorry for the freakout.

decay

As much as I have love in my heart for the hot hot days of summer, I despise the cooling-down, leaves-turning-silly-colors, dark-all-the-time (except when I am at work) commencement of fall. Always around this time of year I start feeling a little out of sorts and maybe just a little blue. I've come up with some good ways to try to beat off these tendancies by installing full spectrum lightbulbs in my house and overenthusiastic leaps into the holiday knitting season. All fine and good, but this year my methods don't really seem to be working.

This may be because I have also realized that due to an idiotic mistake, I am going to be shitass broke until spring. No new clothes for fall (I'll continue making due with the same garbage I've been wearing for years, most of which is starting to fall apart), no fall trip to The Grand Canyon, no winter trip to visit my awesome friends in DC, no ability to pay for fun evenings out, and the added stress of pretty constant money worries. The only upside may turn out to be some unintentional weight loss as I can't afford to eat out, but I'm pretty lazy when it comes to cooking. Yay, the Poverty Diet.

Anyway, woo fall (except, you know, the opposite of that). Here's Amy, already looking forward to spring. In the meantime, in an attempt to make myself feel better with some decluttering I'm cleaning out my stuff (with the added bonus of a few extra dollars for spending grocery money). Help a kid out and visit my internet yard sale (links on the right)!

katsup

I've obviously been much to busy to keep the internetosphere updated on the life of me, so here goes. Obviously, the most important is the knitting. I am currently engaged in a number of Top Secret projects that I am bursting all over the place to talk about. But alas, that discussion is not going to happen on this weblog until after the holidays. Don't fret! I am photodocumenting my progress.

In knitting news that I can talk about, last night I attended the Boise Bitch and Stitch downtown at Thomas Hammer. The group is full of fun and welcoming people, and of many skill levels. Enough of them can be totally awed by my knitting prowess to make me feel, well, full of prow (whatever that means). However, I bet if I get stuck in a knitting crisis I can't find my way out of someone there might be able to point my needles in the right direction. While I think they are mostly quite a bit younger than me, that's never been a deterrent before. I'm planning on going back next week.

In the world of geekery, earlier in the week, I upgraded my MT to the new fancypants 3.33. Not everything is working quite exactly right just yet, but give me time. I will triumph. (Though getting Media Manager installed again is giving me FITS. My consumption pages are totally broken for the time being. Harumpf.) I primarily embarked on this endeavor because the librarian in me loves TAGGING, and the tags don't work. Dork much?

And lastly, but definitely not leastly, I am very much looking forward to a real vacation! At the end of the month I'm headed to The Grand Canyon for a week. Lots of time for knee-busting hiking balanced by knit-knit-knitting my way down highway 89 (we're going the longer but prettier way), and a couplea Dam Tours with my Pops. Who doesn't love a good Dam Tour? Other than my Mom? While I do realize that most 30-somethings don't vacation with their parents, I have a couple things to say. Firstly, I really like my parents. Second, a vacation that is free (or close to it), frees up my cash for MORE vacations. And third and lastly, even though I took that little mini-break a couple weeks ago, I'm still wound pretty tight. A big break AWAY is going to be nice. Plus one of the Wonders of the World? Good for putting things in perspective.
